GlowNest combines family controls with automated visual safety technology. The aim is simple: give children room to communicate, while making it harder for sensitive visual content or unwanted contact to slip through unnoticed.
What parents control
Chat
Parents can enable or disable child chat for individual child profiles.
Calling
Parents can enable or disable calling. Child video calls also require GlowNest live safety analysis to be available.
Discoverability
Parents can choose whether a child is discoverable for friend connections.
Friends and blocks
GlowNest provides family-managed friend and blocking tools to help control who a child can connect with.
Parent mode
Parent access uses the household PIN. The PIN is checked by the server rather than child-mode app logic.
Safety incidents
Safety alerts are handled from the parent side through Safety Center. Children cannot simply dismiss a parent-review restriction.
Photos are checked before another child receives them.
When a child sends a photo, GlowNest runs automated safety analysis for possible nudity before the image can be delivered. The current server-side child-photo pipeline holds the image privately while it is checked. A photo marked safe can continue into the message flow; a photo marked sensitive is blocked before delivery.
On supported iOS devices, GlowNest also uses Apple's on-device Sensitive Content Analysis as an additional layer. The Apple classification result stays on the device. The server performs its own independent check on child photos before delivery.
Fail-closed behaviour: if the server photo safety service cannot complete the check, GlowNest does not send the photo.
Blocked-photo privacy: the current server implementation does not retain the blocked image itself after classification; Safety Center retains incident metadata instead.
Safety checks run while a child video call is happening.
GlowNest does not wait until after a child video call has finished. Child video tracks are sampled during the call and analysed for possible nudity.
iOS: local and remote child video tracks are sampled on the device using Apple's Sensitive Content Analysis. The analysis result is not sent to the GlowNest server. If the analyser is unavailable, GlowNest refuses or ends the child video call rather than continuing without the required safety layer.
Android: heavily reduced live frames are sent to an authenticated GlowNest safety endpoint and passed transiently to the self-hosted scanner. Those live safety frames are processed in memory and are not written to disk.
If possible nudity is detected, the child video call is ended and a Safety Center incident is created for the relevant child household. The parent side then takes over.
A safety alert is a parent decision point.
Safety incidents identify the relevant child, the type of event, the source (for example a child photo or video call), timestamps and the status of the incident. Parents in the child's household can review and resolve the incident.
GlowNest may temporarily restrict child messaging, media or calling while an incident remains open. This prevents a child from simply carrying on around a safety block without parent involvement.
Automated safety tools reduce risk — they do not eliminate it.
Image and video classifiers can make mistakes, including false positives and false negatives. GlowNest safety technology is an additional protective layer, not a replacement for age-appropriate parental involvement, child education, reporting tools or emergency services.
